Women's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Calgary

This class is taught by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Brown Belt, Diana Trang, who has over 12 years experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  A pioneer in Women's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Western Canada, Diana was one of the very first few females to begin training BJJ in Edmonton, AB, where she began her journey.  During this time, she's won several achievements - most recently: in Alberta (2x Alberta Provincial Champion 2016-2017); Brazil - bringing back 5 medals from Brazil in 2010 (FJJRio State and CBJJ Nationals - 3 Gold);  the United States - World Masters Silver Medalist in 2017, World Masters Bronze Medalist in 2018; and BC - Gold Medalist at the Abu Dhabi International Pro in 2019.  If you ask her, however, her greatest achievements and pride are her day-to-day moments with her students, offering guidance and support to her students and community, making an impact, empowering others, sharing these skills with her children, and being an ambassador for mothers - demonstrating that it is possible to be champion mother and competitor.  In addition to this, one of her biggest drivers is the current state and statistics on sexual assault/abuse and mental health decline.  To her, these statistics are disturbing, alarming and requires change.  Self Defense, to her,  is a fundamental life skill that every person should have a right to - but it goes beyond that - it is about Self Empowerment, Self worth, and Self Care .  Diana is also a Certified Yoga teacher and also co-teaches a Jiu Jitsu/Yoga class for children at Anderson Goncalves Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in addition to her other Jiu Jitsu and Yoga classes at the studio.

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling art that predominately takes place on the ground with an element of stand-up/throws/take-downs. It is a very practical martial art which utilizes natural body leverage and technique to obtain control of an opponent or attacker. When practiced with proper technique, BJJ can allow a smaller person to defeat a larger person. Whether you are looking to improve fitness, achieve better health, learn a self defense, or compete - BJJ can help you to reach your goals.  To learn more about the benefits of Jiu Jitsu, read Diana's blog post: Phenomenal Woman - Jiu Jitsu for Her.

Classes held at Anderson Goncalves BJJ [#11, 2650 36th Street SE, Calgary]
