ABOUT THE CLASS:
Satori is excited to annouce a merge of our Yin Yoga class with an old favourite - Hatha Yoga.
In this blended class, participants can expect a gentle and flowing practice -great for the whole array of experience levels. It is great for beginner yogis but also for those with prior yoga knowledge and experience.
Expect to start slow from the ground, building up to a gentle standing flow, and returning to the ground to close the hour.
Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that targets the connective tissues of the body (tendons, fascia, and ligaments) through slow and long-held stretches. These poses, which are generally held for 3-5 minutes, assists in increasing circulation to the joints and improving flexibility. Due to the stillness in the poses, we see this as a great opportunity to focus on the Breath, thus activating the meditative side of the practice. This gentle yet effective practice will help to open the body and mind while relieving tightness and tension, both physically and mentally.
Hatha Yoga bridges the elements of the body through postures, the breath through technique, and mindfulness surrounding the combined practices. If your goal is to achieve a healthier body and a clearer, more peaceful mind - Hatha is a great style for you. There are nearly 200 hatha yoga postures which aid in supporting the spine, promoting circulation in all organs, glands, and tissues, and stretching and aligning the body for better balance and flexibility.
No experience is required. Classes consider all experience levels and will show modifications, should they be needed.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Mellisa is a passionate yoga and meditation teacher with a love for the practice. Currently she has 500 hours of certified yoga therapy training and an additional 200 hour meditation training with over 7 years teaching experience. Her passion and love for the practice grew as she discovered relief from depression and mental illness through the help of yoga and meditation. Her studies are rooted in the Himalayan Tradition of Yoga and she has studied with highly experienced teachers in Calgary, India and Costa Rica. This extensive training in yoga therapy and meditation has led her to teach youth, seniors, and individuals from all walks of life (including cancer survivors, as well as individuals with physical and mental limitations).
Mellisa believes we are all capable of healing ourselves completely and yoga and meditation are amazing tools to use along that healing journey.
