The only of it's kind in Calgary - combining Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Yoga!  This class is a great way to get your child involved in a physical activity that trains them both physically and mentally.   In a fun and safe environment, children will learn fundamental Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Self Defense while also learning Breathwork and Yoga postures.

With a strong focus on the fundamentals movements of both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Yoga, this combination class teaches children the importance of learning Self Defense/Martial Art, while also understanding and listening to the body, recognizing the importance of the breath for fitness, emotional regulation, and how it benefits us on a mental and physical level.

This class promotes a healthy self-confidence, a positive attitude,  discipline, respect, problem-solving, and many other beneficial developmental qualities such as balance, coordination, focus, and self-control.  Through practical and playful teachings the children learn valuable life skills, technical skills - while also building friendships - and of course - having fun!  All experience levels are welcome.

Classes are taught by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Professor Diana Trang (also a certified Yoga and Meditation Teacher) and Coach Vielka Cofre, Blue Belt.

* Gi (uniforms) are not required for this introductory program, however, if children plan to continue beyond the program, they will be required to purchase a uniform.  Uniforms can be viewed/ordered here: https://www.satoriyyc.com/product-page/kids-youth-jiu-jitsu-gi-uniform

About the Coaches:

Professor Diana ("Professor" meaning "Teacher" in Brazilian Portuguese) has been in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community for over 20 years. Over this time, Diana has taken part in the growth of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Canada and is one of the first female pioneers of BJJ in Western Canada.  For the majority of her jiu jitsu career, she has been the sole female in her academy training mainly with men. While this experience set her foundation, it also gave her drive to pave a way for women and girls.  She believes in BJJ for everyone - boys, girls, men, and women!

Diana also routinely volunteers her time to teach at community events and collaborates with many non-profits and charities in YYC.  When she is not running these events, she is regularly teaching at Satori.  She is an advocate in the trauma community, passionately advocates for safe, healthy, and empowering health practices, represents women in a male-dominated sport, and is a proud mother to 2 beautiful boys. Diana has also competed and successfully won many local and international BJJ competitions. She is passionate about building resilient communities and keeps it her mission to foster this sense of community within each class she teaches.

Coach Vielka has been training Jiu Jitsu under Professor Diana for 5 years - starting at the age of 15, and now 20!  Vielka has shown great leadership amongst the women's only group (where she started when she was still a teen), and is the first now woman under Professor Diana to have taken a role as an assistant coach.  Despite being the ripe age of 20, Vielka continues to be leader in the women's class.  An athlete as well, Vielka has competed and medalled in several local competitions.  Currently, Vielka is also a university student pursuring athletic therapy.
