A great introduction for children to get started in a practical martial art and physical activity that trains them both physically and mentally.   In a fun and safe environment, children will learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Self Defense, Yoga, and Breathwork techniques.

This class is for kids ages 4-5 years old.  Classes are held alongside our 5-8 year old class, where there will be opportunities to integrate for group learning.

This class promotes a healthy self-confidence, positive attitudes, discipline, respect, problem-solving, and many other beneficial developmental qualities such as balance, coordination, focus, emotional regulation, socialization, and self-control.  With these teachings, kids are started off by learning valuable life skills while building friendships - and of course - having fun!

Classes are taught by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Professor Diana Trang and Coach Vielka Cofre, Blue Belt (see bios below).

Professor Diana has been in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) community for 20 years.  "Professor" is the rank earned when a person achieves Black Belt rank in BJJ ("Professor" meaning "Teacher" in Brazilian Portuguese).  Over this time, Professor Diana has taken part in the growth of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Canada and is one of the first female pioneers of BJJ in Western Canada.  When she is not regularly teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, she is also teaching Yoga and Ginastica Natural (body movement) classes to adults and children.  She is also often found volunteering her time sharing her skills at charity and community events, collaborating with various organization in YYC, and advocating in the trauma community.   She is passionate about sharing and teaching healthy and empowering life practices - but not only this - she also represents women in a male-dominated sport and is a proud mother to 2 boys. Professor Diana has also competed and successfully won many local and international BJJ competitions.

Coach Vielka has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2019, started at the age of just 15 years old (turning 20 this year), training under Professor Diana.  Coach Vielka became the very first - and only teenager, at the start - to graduate into the adults BJJ system.  Coach Vielka grew a love and passion for BJJ immediately and quickly became a leader and mentor for others within the group.  Early on,  Professor Diana noticed Vielka to have an incredible aptitude for picking up technique and began mentoring her to coach. Now alongside Professor Diana, Coach Vielka continues to grow her technique, but also share it with children.
